Every Andy Needs an Ann

Little sisters are hard to get along with.  They want to play tag with you, but they’re slower because they’re younger.  Not to mention they’re girls.

They want to play hide-and-seek, but only know three hiding places in the whole backyard.

They want to play He-Man, but don’t even know if Clawful is good or evil.

They cry when you throw rocks at them, even if you miss on purpose.

They tattle when you eat all the frosting off their cake.

They get dirtbikes and want to ride all over the backyard tracks you build.

But they also play Scrabble with you, even if they’re too young to spell.

And Raggedy Andys look a little silly alone.

We found out this week that Zach’s going to have a little sister.  I’m trying to convince my wife to name her ‘Raggedy.’

About Jimmy

The stories herein are about a sentimental 80s child who cried at every showing of ET (the sad part where he was lying in the wash) and his families, then and now. His wife, son, parents, and siblings play their parts well. They have their exits and their entrances. Sometimes their exits are sad, but not as sad as ET.

Raggedy, babe? Hm…that’s better than some of your other suggestions. We can test that one out tonight when we pray for her.
I didn’t know Clawful was bad…I had to ask you. I remember.
I know this baby girl will grow up knowing the difference between good and evil MOTU guys.
    A girl! For us!

PS That boy of ours likes to smile for pictures way too much. How long did it take him to look at Ann instead of grinning at the camera?

Congratulations! And btw, little sisters are a pain whether you’re a boy or a girl. But in the end, you wouldn’t trade ’em in on say a Toyota; maybe a Porsche, but not a Toyota anyway.

that is what makes us girls so special!! and when we grow up,,,,,,you like that too!!! lol

Delightful news, and a delightful post! Thanks for sharing the wonderful news. That last picture with Zach grinning is priceless, which I’m sure he realizes 🙂 …. I had both a big sister, and a little one…. from a personal standpoint, the little one was nicer, but the older one was way more stable…. they’re all unique, aren’t they?…. I know my own daughter is….. and she gets along great with her older brother. Take care of your family, and Blessed Be….

  7. Fabulous news! Perfectly matched with the huge grin on Zach’s face. 🙂

  8. Congratulations, guys! Another little baby! Best! x

Congratulations on the coming addition to your family! She will, no doubt, supply you with more blog material.
Oh, and your sentence: “They want to play tag with you, but they’re slower because they’re younger. Not to mention they’re girls.” reminded me of a bumper sticker I saw last week. It read: “Yes, I run like a girl. Try to keep up”.
    😉

I didn’t mention that my sister was the fastest, most coordinated child in our family. We still play catch every time I go back to LA.

I like the running bumper sticker: ‘Get in touch with your inner-Kenyan.’

Raggedy is better than Abra, but keep thinking. Love you guys, and I’m looking forward to having a granddaughter.

  11. What a nice way to tell the good news…congratulations!

  12. Sachi says:

    P.S Lovely post as usual.

  13. Maxi says:

Happy Days to you and the Mrs. on a baby girl! She will be beautiful no matter the name.
Thank you for this post. My husband had a Raggedy Ann doll made for our granddaughter and I posted the story on my blog.

Last pic of Zach is priceless!

    Blessings – Maxi

Congratulations Jimmy and Kristy on such exciting news, First little girl in your family..Maria was just telling me the family needs a little girl.. Love your blogs Jimmy…More Jeffrey stories please..I never realized he was such a bratty big brother~ LOL~.Do you remember our Disneyland trip or were you to little?

    • Jimmy says:

I remember Disneyland very well! We stayed at the hotel the night before. I believe on one ride, you told us that Morrie had peed his pants! Good times.

  15. Cara Olsen says:

Beautiful baby you two have! And another of the way! Congratulations to you both.

On another note . . . My Aunt used to make these dolls and sell them; to be honest, I found them to be rather creepy as a child. Knowing their story as I do now, I’m disposed to feel warmth toward the brother-sister duo.
While I did have a brother who was 6 years my senior, he had no desire to be a big brother to me in any fashion. It looks as if your children will be quite close in age, which will certainly foster a companionship and the frequency in which they impart mutiny on you and your wife 🙂

    Blessings,
    Cara

    • Jimmy says:

Thank you! My sister and I were close in age and we had a pretty good time together.

My wife and I are planning on having a baby every nine and a half months… well, that’s how often I’m planning it. My wife doesn’t know that yet.

  16. You have a nice style of expressing yourself. You make me smile. I think your children will be fortunate. Thanks for your thumbs up on my blog.

Congratulations Jimmy! And Uh Oh – you may not have time for blogging anymore what with all the added work taking care of Raggedy. 🙂

Jimmy, so very pleased you visited my blog and liked the post about Jesus stopping to hearl someone when He already knew He was headed on that very road for his death in Jerusalem. I really enjoyed this Raggedy Ann posting and congratulate you on your coming baby girl. My children grew up mostly in the 80’s as well; so I am pleased to find your blog to keep me as much in touch with Gen Xers as possible!

    • Jimmy says:

The 80s were a magical time. No other decade had Michael Jackson, GI Joe, and Star Wars movies. Except for maybe the 70s and the 90s.

  19. Oster's Mom says:

This is such a sweet post. Thanks for stopping by Discover and Devour. I’m glad to have “run” into you.

  20. Ann Marquez says:

    AW! Congratulations!!! 😀
Um, Raggedy? Very bad idea 😉

  21. sillyliss says:

Sweet! I just found your blog, but already want to say: congratulations!

  22. Congratulations! Glad I didn’t miss this post! I’m not sure Raggedy is a good name. I think she would have a low self esteem to start off with if you named her that. 🙂
Whatever you name her, I’m sure it will be fun to choose the name, and will be just as beautiful a name as your daughter will be.
    How exciting!

  23. OMG you are so wrong about girls, i was nothing like that, and neither were my friends, and i was hide and seek champion of sorts, came up with new places even if that meant getting ant bites..except this one time when i hid behind a mini van and it took off ..but only one time 🙂
You son Zach is super duper cute loved his smile he is just koootchie pooothie( ya i say weird things when i say cute kids so pardon me)
Raggedy for your daughter..Hmm may be if she has red hair and triangle nose 🙂
and two kids prepare yourself to play refree rest of your life 😆
    Congrats Jimmy 🙂

  24. Congrats! My son got his “Raggedy” seven months ago…and it has been wonderful watching them really start to love each other. Enjoy.

  25. Dear Jimmy! Oh what wonderful stories!! Delightful, warm, funny. The best kind of stories. I’m glad you’re sharing these with us. Warmest greetings to you and your beautiful family + one! Sharon
